Spectroid is described as a real-time audio spectrum analyzer that offers reasonable frequency resolution across the entire frequency spectrum.

💬 FAQ 💬

  • Q: Why are the dB values negative?
A: Spectroid utilizes dBFS (Full Scale) where 0 dB represents the maximum power that the microphone can measure. Therefore, the dB values are negative as the measured power is lower than the maximum power.
  • Q: Can I zoom in on the spectrum plot?
A: Yes, you can zoom in on the spectrum plot by performing a two-finger pinch-to-zoom gesture.
  • Q: Why are there discontinuities/gaps in the spectrum plot and waterfall?
A: Spectroid employs multiple overlapped FFTs (Fast Fourier Transforms) in order to enhance frequency resolution at lower frequencies compared to a single FFT. This technique may result in varied impulse response and minor discontinuities in frequency. However, it efficiently generates a spectrum that closely matches human audio perception. Nevertheless, keep in mind that it may not be as accurate as relying solely on your ears!
  • Q: Can I export the spectrum data?
A: Spectroid is not intended to be used as a calibrated instrument for exporting spectrum data. For accurate spectrum data, it is recommended to use an actual spectrum analyzer rather than relying on a mobile app.
